Privacy Policy

The short version

Lurkology is run by supa.sh. You can use it without an account. If you sign in with Twitch, we keep what we need to run your account and nothing else. Google Analytics and Google AdSense set cookies, and Google handles what they collect.

Public data we index

To build its stats, Lurkology collects public data from Twitch and Kick: live streams, titles, categories, viewer and follower counts, clips, VODs, channel bans and emotes. It also joins the public chat of live Twitch channels. Raw chat messages, with the sender's username, are kept for one day so VOD chat replays can be built, then deleted. What stays longer is counted in aggregate — messages per minute, unique chatters, emote uses, estimated subscriptions — and does not identify anyone.

The chat logs on the Logs page come from third-party archives, fetched through BestLogs (bestlogs.lurkology.com), a proxy that does not keep them. We cannot remove them: removal requests have to go to the archive that holds the logs.

Signing in with Twitch

Signing in is optional and only needed for bookmarks, ban alerts, notifications, the Following filter on Live and downloads. When you sign in, Twitch asks you to let Lurkology read your email address and the channels you follow. We store:

• your Twitch user ID, username, display name and avatar
• your verified email address, which we do not use for marketing
• the channels you follow, and an encrypted Twitch token so we can refresh that list
• your bookmarks, saved views, ban alerts and notifications
• when your account was created and when you last signed in

You can revoke Lurkology's access at any time under Connections in your Twitch settings. To have your account and everything tied to it deleted, email us from the address linked to your Twitch account.

Cookies

• Sign-in: an HTTP-only session cookie on api.lurkology.com that lasts a year from your last visit or until you sign out, plus a short-lived one during sign-in
• Analytics: Google Analytics cookies that tell visits apart
• Advertising: Google AdSense cookies used to serve and measure ads

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count page views and clicks on outbound links. It records the page, the referring site, your browser, operating system, device type and approximate location. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Advertising

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent first. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's ad settings, and read how Google uses this data in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Stored in your browser

Preferences — theme, sidebar state, player volume and speed, Live filters and layout, log display options, overlay presets — are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device, and clearing your site data removes them. VOD and clip downloads and chat overlay renders run entirely in your browser; the files are not uploaded anywhere.

Services your browser talks to

Pages fetch some of their data directly from the services that hold it. Those services receive your IP address and the request, and handle it under their own policies. They include:

• our own API and playback proxy, and the BestLogs proxy, on lurkology.com subdomains
• Twitch and Kick, for images, stream previews, clips and VODs
• luminous.alienpls.org, for Twitch live previews
• IVR (api.ivr.fi), for user lookups, emotes and badges
• roles.tv, for moderator, VIP and other roles
• PotatBotat (api.potat.app), for emote search and badge rankings
• 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ, for third-party emotes
• community-run firehose instances, for the live chat on the Firehose page
• Google, for analytics and ads

The site is served through Cloudflare. Our API uses your IP address to rate-limit requests and does not store it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to object to how it is used. Email us and we will answer within 30 days. Lurkology is not meant for children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top says when it last changed.
